With filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently underway in the U.K., theories and rumors about who Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is playing have only increased. Since the actor’s casting in March, Sink has remained tight-lipped on the nature of her role, implying that whoever she’s playing will have a major impact on the MCU Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Seeing that we’re still a ways out from Brand New Day hitting theaters in the summer of 2026, we went ahead and put together a list of all the characters she’s suspected to be portraying onscreen.

Given that Brand New Day writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna have over sixty years of Spider-Man comic history to pull from, there are several great options that a talent like Sadie Sink could be taking on.
7) Carlie Cooper

Cooper may be a lesser-known character in the greater Marvel Comics universe, but Sink resembles her, and Cooper does appear in the Brand New Day Spider-Man run. Her job with the NYPD also fits nicely into the alleged street-level story that director Daniel Destin Cretton is striving for the webslinger’s next solo movie installment. Cooper’s character presents a lot of dramatic opportunity, seeing as she’s both a love interest of Peter’s and, after forced exposure to Goblin formula, an antagonist too, under the moniker Monster.
6) Julia Carpenter

Though this may be a less likely candidate for Sink’s secret role, as Carpenter appeared in the Sony bomb Madame Web, there’s still a chance that she’ll be the first Spider-Woman we meet in the live-action MCU. Carpenter has a long and storied history in comics since her debut in the ’80s, and in addition to holding the title of Madame Web and under the codename Arachne, she aids Ms. Marvel in training young superheroes. Her presence could be a tie-in to the post-credit scene in The Marvels, where Kamala Khan tells Kate Bishop/Hawkeye that she’s building a Young Avengers team. With Peter’s identity erased from everyone’s memory at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sink as Carpenter could provide an essential link for Peter back to a super-team.
5) Firestar (Angelica Jones)

A mutant with a range of fire-related powers, Firestar has a ton of potential not just in Brand New Day but in the greater MCU. Firestar, or Angelica Jones, has been a love interest of Peter’s in the past and could serve as a powerful ally, especially since another Brand New Day rumor speculates that Spidey may be up against multiple villains this time around. With Jones being both a member of the X-Men and the Avengers, and Sink’s status as a star on the rise, having her play Firestar makes a lot of sense. Her character could be integral in bringing in the X-Men formally into the MCU.
4) Venom / Mary Jane Watson

After Zendaya’s character, MJ, was revealed to be Michelle Jones, and not Mary Jane Watson, in previous Spider-Man films, we fans have always been curious if MCU Peter would ever meet Mary Jane, a character who canonically always sports red hair just like Sink’s. Given that there are rumors of Venom appearing in Brand New Day and that Mary Jane recently became the host of the symbiote in the comics, there’s an epic opportunity to introduce both Mary Jane and Venom in a way we’ve never seen them before.
3) Gwen Stacy

Hey, if MJ can be Michelle Jones, why couldn’t a redhead play Peter’s other most famous love interest? Ever since Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel Studios has been up for subverting traditional tropes and storytelling traditions surrounding everyone’s favorite webslinger. If this rumor is true, the big question is Sink’s Stacy Sink would live to see the end of Brand New Day, as her death is a major turning point for Peter’s character.
2) Mayday Parker / Spider-Girl

One of the leading theories around Sink’s casting is that she’ll play Mayday Parker, who in the comics is Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s daughter. In the timelines where she survives, Mayday inherits her father’s powers and becomes Spider-Girl, and her existence plays a major part in the comics run One More Day, which precedes the storyline the new movie draws from. Even though Tom Holland is nowhere near old enough to play Sink’s father, fans believe that she could be the daughter of Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s films, whom MCU Peter met during No Way Home. In the film, Raimi’s Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire, or “Peter 2”, alluded that he and his Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) made his double life as a superhero work. Therefore, there’s a chance that Sink is in fact their daughter and travels from their timeline to help MCU Peter or ask for his assistance in some matter.
1) Jean Grey

If Sink’s not playing Mayday, fans tend to think she’ll be playing X-Man Jean Grey in Brand New Day. One of the most powerful and beloved X-Men, Grey would arguably make an even stronger character to use for the super-team’s introduction into the MCU. Jean would make for an excellent ally for Peter on his latest adventure, and is a complicated role for Sink to sink her teeth into. Also, given Sink’s young age, having her play Jean also means that she could reprise the character in several movies and shows following Brand New Day as a founding member of the mutant group in this timeline. Especially since earlier this year, when Sink was asked if she was playing Grey in the upcoming film, she didn’t deny the rumor.
