Each Disney live-action remake is a unique beast, with its own expectations built in. That is certainly the case with the live-action Aladdin, which will be helmed by Guy Ritchie, and now seems poised to include musical numbers in some form or fashion.

Ritchie sat down with Nerdist to talk about King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, where he also was asked about Aladdin, and if it would include music. Ritchie said “I think it’d be tough not to make it a musical. It’s too early because I’ve really just immersed myself into that project, so I’m still looking for cast members, we still haven’t found exactly which direction we’re going in. I’m confident that at some stage it will reveal itself to me, but right now it’s just a bit too premature.”

Recently the director was asked if he was adjusting the film at all due to recent issues with diversity in Hollywood.”Decency is decency” said Ritchie. “Humanity is humanity. I think the film will dictate exactly what the tone is supposed to be and who’s supposed to be in it,” Ritchie says. “You just don’t want to feel like you’re muscled into it, because you’re bullied into it. It will be what it will be, because it should be what it should be. It will have its own authentic voice, and you don’t want that voice contaminated by a PC army.”

Disney’s current hit Beauty and the Beast is in theaters now, and you can find the official synopsis below.
