The Fate of the Furious earned $68.4 million internationally this weekend, bringing its box office total to $1.06 billion.

That worldwide total makes The Fast and the Furious the 21st-highest grossing movie of all time, sitting between Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at the twentieth spot and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the twenty-second.

The Fate of the Furious‘ international total now stands at $867.6 million.

The Fate of the Furious only the thirtieth film ever to cross the $1 billion box office milestone. It is the second film from The Fast and the Furious franchise, following Furious 7. Furious 7‘s lifetime global box office total reached over $1.5 billion, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of all time worldwide.

While The Fate of the Furious still has some catching up to do if it wants to meet or pass its predecessor, crossing the $1 billion mark puts it in the company of films like The Dark Knight, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

The Fate of the Furious has been setting records since it opened at the box office. The film set new opening day records in 16 territories, and had the biggest international opening day of all time, beating the record previously held by Jurassic World. It is also the highest-grossing film ever directed by an African-American director, passing Tim Story’s 2005 Fantastic Four movie, and the biggest opening for a film directed by an African-American filmmaker, with F. Gary Gray beating his own Straight Outta Compton record.

The Fate of the Furious‘s domestic total currently sits at approximately $192.7 million. These numbers have been more than enough for the film to dominate the box office for three consecutive weekends.

In The Fate of the Furious, with Dom and Letty married, Brian and Mia retired and the rest of the crew exonerated, the globe-trotting team has found some semblance of a normal life. They soon face an unexpected challenge when a mysterious woman named Cipher forces Dom to betray them all. Now, they must unite to bring home the man who made them a family and stop Cipher from unleashing chaos.

The Fate of the Furious is directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Chris Morgan. The film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron.

The Fate of the Furious is now playing in theaters. Plans for two more sequels in The Fast and the Furious franchise are already in place.
