It’s rare that an unknown or an actor that is recognized as a ‘bad’ actor is cast in a comic book movie these days. In fact most of the DC and Marvel Cinematic Universe have either a Tony, Emmy, or an Oscar somewhere on their shelves. Spider-Man: Homecoming alone has Academy Award winners Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Marissa Tormei (My Cousin Vinny, yes… I know). Robert Downey Jr. has two Golden Globes and two Oscar nominations and of course Donald Glover has four Emmy nods and one Golden Globe.
That’s a long way of saying that comic book movies aren’t for the low rent actor any more. Which is why it’s all the more fun to watch these highly paid, highly sought after, award winning actors back before they were famous. Many of their roles weren’t big ones – like Marissa Tormei’s screaming scene in Troma’s Toxic Avenger. I LOVE that film and I somehow never connected that it was her in that brief scene in the shower.
Donald Glover, even before is role in Community was a writer for Tina Fey’s 30 Rock, like many writers they occasionally show up in the show they write for – Glover had one line but he made it memorable. There are so many others to list in this video – but I’ll let you watch it. Comment which were your favorite ones – or if you know of a different film that these superheroes and villains were in long before they started getting recognized.
You’ll be able to see nearly all these actors in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
