Marvel released two teaser for its upcoming reboot/relaunch/reimagining/rebranding or whatever they want to call it, and with the teasers came lots of questions.
Perhaps as interesting as who is in the teasers is who is absent. Several big players in the Marvel Universe have yet to be teased in Marvel's coming new universe.
Here are the five characters most conspicuous by their absence.
Hulk
Considering how controversial this new Hulk is supposed to be, and how the Hulk is one of Marvel's biggest characters, you would think they'd offer some kind of visual teaser suggesting things to come for the character. His absence only fuels certain fan theories that Bruce Banner may actually be the man in the Iron Man suit, rather than Tony Stark.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers is the only character with a major Marvel Studios film on the schedule to not appear on either teaser (well, sort of…more on that in a minute). She's been a cult favorite character since she took Captain Marvel's mantle, with the support of the "Carol Corps" of fans. It seem strange that Marvel wouldn't put a spotlight on one of their rising stars.
Odinson
So we mentioned the Marvel movies, and technically Thor is on the teaser. But Odinson, the god who was once Thor and who is the Thor featured in the Marvel Studios films, is absent. Was there no place for the Unworthy in the new Marvel Universe?
Deadpool
We know that, despite rivalries between Marvel and Fox, mutants and the Fantastic Four will be returning, in some form or fashion, to the Marvel Universe. Deadpool has long been one of the most popular Marvel mutants. The other, Wolverine, is returning to the Marvel Universe after being dead for a while, so where is Deadpool?
Hawkeye
Clint Barton's recent solo comic book run has been critically acclaimed, and he had a significant spotlight put on him in Avengers: Age of Ultron. You would think, with the movie push, that they'd put Hawkeye front in center for the new era. In fact, several other heroes of the same caliber as Hawkeye, like Deathlok, the Winter Soldier, Black Widow and Angela – who were all featured on teasers for Avengers NOW! – have been left off of the new teaser. Is marvel trying to narrow its focus to just its most marketable characters?
