With Guardians of the Galaxy hitting theaters in 2014, Marvel plans to create some multimedia synergy with an animated TV series, presumably to run on Disney XD, Comic Book Movie is reporting. This isn't the first time there's been talk of an animated series for Guardians; back in July, Marvel's Steve Wacker hinted at the possibility in the letter column of the Guardians comic book. "I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about Guardians of the Galaxy at this animation summit, but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY be…amazing?" Wacker said in Guardians of the Galaxy #4's back pages. "Seriously though, don't ask me about it because it totally didn't happen." The characters have already appeared on Ultimate Spider-Man, to a flurry of attention and even a Guardians-centric trailer, which also led some to believe that Disney XD and/or Marvel Television had long-term designs on the characters. CBM doesn't have much in the way of details, but claims "a well placed source has confirmed to us that Marvel do indeed have plans for a new animated series focusing on the Guardians Of The Galaxy. Word is that Marvel were undecided on whether to go with GOTG or yet another Spider-Man cartoon, and although the latter may also happen, it seems they've settled on the Guardians for now." That's an odd claim to make, since Ultimate Spider-Man is still very much a going concern and creating a second Spider-Man cartoon to compete with their existing one seems like it would be an odd choice for a company with such a deep character library to exploit--but both Disney and Warner Bros. have been known to beat dead horses as it pertains to Spidey and Batman, so it's hard to call that a disqualifying claim.
