Every element of pop culture has been taken completely over by the intergalactic phenomenon, and the release of The Force Awakens in 2015 caused an ever bigger spike in attention.

While Star Wars seems to be in every inch of our world, it seems odd that there isn’t a primetime television series regarding the saga. Star Wars: Rebels has been a massively successful series, but it airs on Disney XD, and is geared toward a younger audience.

Rumours regarding a live action series in a galaxy far, far away have been disspelled for years, but a recent interview with Disney/ABC executive, Ben Sherwood, has given fans of the franchise a new hope.

When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben was asked about the chances a live-action Star Wars series would ever happen. Sherwood had this to say on the topic:

“The live-action Star Wars plan rests in the hands of [Walt Disney Studios chairman] Alan Horn, [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy and the great folks at Lucasfilm. Somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks. But I wouldn’t get anybody’s hopes up too high. They have a lot of movies to make between now and then. We are deep into a very productive relationship with Lucasfilm making [Disney XD’s] Star Wars Rebels. And we are in ongoing conversations with them on what is the next Star Wars animated show.”

This information has assured Star Wars fans that there may, one day, be a series, but we will have to wait until the slate of current films has been released. That may take a while, as Episode IX is slated to release in December 2019.
