John Boyega Met With Robert Downey Jr. To Gain Advice On How To 'Be Famous Correctly'

For many of the stars returning to the galaxy of Star Wars for The Force Awakens, such as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, they were well aware of exactly the kind of attention they'd receive once the film debuted. Many of the film's newcomers, however, had never starred in anything quite like this and were completely unaware of how to handle themselves in public with their newfound fame. John Boyega was so nervous, in fact, that he requested a meeting with Robert Downey Jr. for the sole purpose of learning how to balance a career and a personal life in the spotlight.
When speaking with GQ, Boyega revealed, "It was time for me to sit down with someone who's been through the extremes of Hollywood," adding, "And to be given some tips as to how to stay stable."
25-year-old Boyega apparently asked his agent to orchestrate a breakfast with the fellow Disney star to get insight into handling fame.
For the last ten years, most audiences have known Downey as the sarcastic genius Tony Stark in more than half a dozen different Marvel films, making him one of the most famous people on the planet. Before receiving a massive career revival, the actor was mostly known for his drug-related legal battles in the late '90s, possibly a result of the amount of fame he received in the '80s and early '90s.
During their breakfast, the pair received an impromptu visit from Orlando Bloom, star of the Lord of the Rings films.
"I'm not used to any of that stuff, hanging out with Iron Man on a day-to-day basis," Boyega joked. "I was just like, 'Bloody hell. Is this how the celebrities do?'"
The actor claims he used this unique opportunity to talk to the franchise stars about a more personal matter, which was how to go about dating while living a life in the public eye.
"It's nice to survive with your companion by your side. I'm sure it's a good thing," Boyega explained of his romantic life. "But I've never experienced it. And people advise you as a celebrity, 'Make sure you get someone who doesn't care about your career.' Mmmm…I disagree," Boyega discussed with Downey and Bloom. The pair agreed with him, admitting, "She has to care about it to understand it."
Boyega is sure to get even more famous when The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.
