Narrowly missing the top five most read stories this week were a couple of looks into the near future of the Star Wars franchise: the debut of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is now less than three weeks away. We evaluated the box office history of both Star Wars and of Disney as a whole (as well as other blockbusters), to determine how much money Rogue One needs to make in order to be a success for the House of Mouse. We also heard some new details from Ben Mendelsohn about how his character Director Orson Krennic and Darth Vader (don’t) get along in the film.

Read on to get a quick recap of the week as we go into the home stretch before Rogue One‘s theatrical debut.

We Almost Had a Boba Fett Movie

When Josh Trank left behind his plannedย Star Wars Story movie, the film itself was shelved, as he was the one developing it. That film? Well, it would’ve been about Boba Fett, a new report revealed. The rumor gets even tougher to handle, as it was apparently going to include multiple bounty hunters, possibly even some fromย Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Maybe it’ll come back with a new director in the future.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s best trailer yet

Finally, we have the new trailer, which is in theย video player just above. Debuting during the Thanksgiving special Wonderful World of Disney on ABC (corporate synergy!) the one-minute trailer (or “extended TV spot” if you prefer) has it all, with some new shots, some great dialogue about hope and inspiration, the Death Star, Darth Vader, and a sense of mounting tension. It was at once uniquely different, a clear “war movie,” but also definitelyย Star Wars. And it has fans excited for the release on December 16, 2016.
