This week, the Star Wars is making a rather big comeback when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters. The long-awaited standalone has received nothing but love from critics, and fans are more than ready to see how the film pans out. The premiere date will also align with another important date - the year-out mark for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Now, fans are getting an update on the blockbuster from one of its biggest stars.
In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley took time to talk about Episode VIII with Empire Online. When the starlet was asked about the latest, Ridley confessed she had watched a sizzle reel of Episode VIII.
"I went to go see Rian in the edit, and that was very...[makes excited noise] Rian sounds very happy. It's very, very exciting. Rian doesn't love showing stuff. I've seen bits and bobs, but he likes it to be done. So I think probably the first time I see it will be when it's fully done. I don't think anyone will see an early cut outside of the main editing team…."
Of course, the actress was also asked about the Episode VIII trailer, and Ridley said she had not heard any updates about the video.
"I could probably ask," she said, "but Rogue One is out in like a week, so I guess we'll let that come out, be amazing, let people respond to that first. One step at a time! I know there's Celebration next year. Hopefully something will be shown there? That's speculation, by the way."
Finally, the site bravely decided to ask Ridley if she could share just one line of dialogue from the Episode VIII script. Ridley negotiated and gave one word: "I." She said the word, or rather letter, "sums up so many things" and may be "a big spoiler."
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. In the film, resistance fighters embark on a daring mission to steal the Empire's plans for the Death Star.
