When Donald Glover appears as Lando Calrissian in the untitled Han Solo spinoff movie next year, he'll be reprising stepping into some very big shoes in the Star Wars universe.
But the comedian/actor/rapper/singer is no stranger to pressure, and he'll be benefitting from the guidance of the former coolest man in the galaxy.
Glover spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about a top-secret meeting Billy Dee Williams, a sort of 'passing of the torch' occasion arranged by Lucasfilm. He said he was running behind and a bit frustrated, and when he arrived he immediately began diving into what makes the character tick.
"I was like, 'I've always felt like this character could do this, and he represents this, and I kind of feel like he comes from here, and it's very obvious he has a lot of taste, so maybe he grew up seeing that from afar? Because I'm like that. Maybe he saw it from other planets and was like, I want to be that.'"
Glover chuckled while he recalled the conversation.
"He just let me ramble on and on, and then finally I was like, 'So, what do you think?' And he goes, 'Yeah, I don't know about all that. Just be charming.'"
The dissection of Lando is just a small indication of Glover's commitment level, which is further explored in the profile. It's no secret that he dives into this work and gives 110% to his projects.
We're excited to see his take on the gambler-turned-general when the Han Solo spinoff movie hits theaters May 25, 2018.
Set prior to the events of Han Solo's first appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. The film is said to show how Han Solo and Chewbacca first met Lando Calrissian, played by Glover.
