A few months ago Making Star Wars reported that Frank Oz (the voice actor and puppeteer for Yoda) was on the set of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars VIII which was filming at Pinewood Studios at the time. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Oz did voice over work, but wasn’t actually needed on set. Since Yoda was featured in Rey’s powerful vision when she picked up Luke’s lightsaber, fans assumed we’d be seeing our favorite swamp frog Jedi Master in the follow-up film.

Perhaps he would be assisting Luke train Rey in the way of The Force as a little blue ghost? Now another piece to the rumor has emerged by way of Reddit user Skywalkergal who posted an alleged conversation during Star Wars Celebration Europe:
“One of the many stalls featured at the convention was Saving Yoda, ran by one of the original team operating Yoda in ESB. While waiting to have my photo taken with the Yoda puppet, the dude running it was talking to another guy. The random guy asked which Yoda puppet was currently on display. In response, we were all told that the one on display was puppet 2 (I think, I can’t quite remember exactly). He looked at both of us, and said that members of the original Yoda team have been called in to work on episode 8, using the Yoda 8 puppet, as they’d all recently been talking about it. He’d have no reason to lie.”
You’re right Skywalkergal, he would have no reason to lie…but we’re more concerned whether or not you are telling the truth. Yoda has not been confirmed for Star Wars VIII and we definitely won’t be seeing him in Rogue One.
However, we can keep the dream alive that he will one day return to the galaxy far, far away…
