The next chapter in the Skywalker Saga will be titled The Last Jedi, and is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
While this title is an epic tease to the events of the film, it’s been heard by Star Wars fans before – more than once actually.
In Return Of The Jedi, Yoda tells Luke he will be the last Jedi just before he dies. The quote however, has come up much more recently than that.
In The Force Awakens, Supreme Leader Snoke also references the Last Jedi. It also seems that he is definitely talking about Luke in the scenario.
When Snoke is talking to Kylo Ren and General Hux, he talks about the implications of Luke Skywalker being found. “The droid will soon be delivered to the Resistance, leading them to the last Jedi. if Skywalker returns, the new Jedi will rise.”
Luke Skywalker is almost certainly the Last Jedi, but that doesn’t mean he will be the final Jedi we see. According to that quote, Luke’s appearance to the Resistance will bring about a new wave of the Jedi order. Many believe this will usher in a new era of the Jedi led by Rey, who we know has the power of The Force.
