Fans are still three months away from learning any official information about Supreme Leader Snoke in The Last Jedi, but a new interview with Andrew Garfield revealed information about Andy Serkis that could shed light on the character's appearance. The actor revealed that Serkis appeared in a pre-production meeting with "fake facial hair," making it difficult for the cast to take Serkis seriously.
Garfield relayed to The Hollywood Reporter that Serkis dropped in on a meeting ahead of Breathe, Serkis' directorial debut, while wearing a motion-capture leotard and fake hair on his face, as he was merely on a short break from filming something for The Last Jedi.
"It was a really difficult discussion, and Andy tried to take part as our director, and we couldn't take it seriously!" Garfield joked. "I think he's more used to wearing that outfit than regular clothes."
Snoke made his debut in The Force Awakens as a massive hologram, in which he appeared to be relatively clean-shaven. Considering the piece doesn't explicitly mention where the fake hair appeared, it's tough to say whether it will be full-on facial hair or possibly something to accentuate his eyebrows.
Toys have already given fans glimpses of how Snoke will appear in The Last Jedi, with him looking similar to his hologram. Toys of the character would most likely represent the character's dominant appearance, making it possible that fake facial hair could allude to a flashback sequence in the film that shows Snoke's earlier years.
In addition to Serkis appearing in a motion-capture suit, he also reportedly had sensors on his face to track facial movements, which would be complicated with the incorporation of facial hair.
We'll find out more about Snoke when The Last Jedi opens on December 15.
