Nick Frost Hints At What's Next For Bajie On Into The Badlands

WARNING: Major Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Into The Badlands!

Season 2 of Into The Badlands has become a kung-fu phenomenon for TV fans, and a large factor in its growing success has been the addition of Nick Frost to the cast. The comedian has brought a new, hilarious life to the show, and his character, Bajie, is shrouded in mystery.

That mystery grew after last night's episode, 'Black Heart, White Mountain', as much of Bajie's backstory was revealed. As the episode closes, Bajie is seen using the compass that supposedly leads to MK's home. What could it all mean?

According to Nick Frost, there is a lot in store for Bajie in the coming weeks. The actor took some time to chat with us about the rest of the season, and the epic action that's still to come.

CB: Are we going to see some more Bajie fight scenes going forward as him and Daniel, or as him and Sunny try to get back into the Badlands?

NF: Oh, well there's a really big one coming up with me and M.K. in episode seven. That's a really big fight scene, and then obviously I mean I don't want to give any spoilers away and I don't think you're going to give any away either, but the last two episodes it's very Bajie, Sunny heavy fight scenes, as you would expect for the season finale.

Bajie has kind of made this transition into a hero, what's that process been like for him?

Well, yeah, I mean obviously he starts off as a man who's in it for himself and sees a chance to potentially get out of the Bordeaux Mines with using Sunny. I think obviously as their journey has gone on, they've just both kind of realized that they, Sunny's kind of a reluctant hero, he doesn't necessarily, he's not used to doing things for other people, and I don't think he's used to necessarily having relationships with other people in that respect. Do you know what I mean?

I think he's a bit like Han Solo as well in that respect, that he doesn't want to do the right thing, but he knows he should. I think the relationship with Sunny and their friendship that that kind of brings out in him, he realizes that it's the right thing to do.

It's nice, it's been nice for me to play that, and not knowing that me knowing something that the audience doesn't know in terms of Bajie's not going to be just a guy who crops up on the end of an episode and helps Sunny out of trouble, he's got his own deep backstory and he's got his own problems, and I love seeing that come out. In the last three episodes as well, are the ones that really get juicy for Bajie.

Well speaking of backstory, we learn in episode seven a lot about Bajie's backstory. Did you know that going in, from the time you got the role and sat down, or was that something you learned as you first read the script for this?

Yeah, I mean we only get kind of the scripts two or three in advance, because we shoot four blocks. You only know what your block is going to be at any one time.

I mean it's a nice thing for me as well being a fan of the genre, and then the more and more we get to shoot them, being a fan of a show is, you get to a point and you think, "Ooh, I can't wait to see what's going to happen next," you know.

We didn't really, I didn't really know it was going to get to this point. I think that's the kind of beauty of writing on spec as you do as you get a sense of the character as it goes along, and they can say, "Okay, well we now know he's this kind of guy and develop it going forward on the hoof," you know.

In the very last shot, we can see Bajie sitting there and he's looking at that compass. Without spoiling anything, can you talk a little bit about his mentality with that piece and kind of what he's looking for there?

Well I think, I mean if we're still imagining that, I think he does still want to, he's got his own agenda, but I think he's now trying to couple it in with what they need, what M.K. and Sunny need, but he can't seem to get the two of them to separate at this point, you know what I mean? They're now, those two storylines are now kind of weaving together as one. I think he's trying to keep his cards as close to his chest as he can at this point.

What do you think is waiting for Bajie when he gets to the Badlands?

Well that's a difficult question, because I know exactly what.

I mean I'd say be careful what you wish for.
