The upcoming second season of The CW's Riverdale is set to introduce a little bit of trouble for Betty and Jughead's relationship in the form of Toni Topaz, a student at Jughead's new Southside High who also happens to be a member of the Southside Serpents.

But according to Toni's actress, Vanessa Morgan, there could be far more to Toni than just serving as threat to the fan-loved "Bughead" relationship. In an interview with Bustle, Morgan said that there is a progressive reason behind her character and storyline.

"My character is bisexual," Morgan explained. This is one hundred percent important."

For those unfamiliar with the world of Archie Comics, Toni Topaz is a relatively minor character. In comics, she becomes friends with Jughead Jones because of their shared love of hamburgers. She also has distinctive pink hair and is bisexual in the comics. Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has previously said Toni's sexuality would be explored in the show's second season.

Morgan, who previously played a lesbian character on The Shannara Chronicles, says that Toni will be getting a lot of screen time in Riverdale's upcoming second season and is glad that she is able to bring the bisexual character to life.

"I love being able to represent different people, and every single type of love," Morgan said.

Riverdale's second season will premiere on a new night, on Wednesday, October 11th, at 8/7c, on The CW.

As the town breathed a collective sigh of relief that Jason's killer had been found out, another terrible crime occurred, in a space that had been considered one of the town's safest, most innocent places. If Jason Blossom's murder revealed the slimy underbelly beneath Riverdale's surface, as we enter Season Two, the shooting of Fred Andrews threatens to plunge the entire town into utter darkness.
