Riverdale's second season continues tonight, and the Black Hood is still menacing Archie and his friends, but that doesn't mean the people of Riverdale are going to take things lying down.

Spoilers for tonight's episode of Riverdale, "Chapter Sixteen: The Watcher in the Woods", below!

While Moose and Misty managed to survive the Black Hood's attack last week, Archie isn't celebrating. He and the rest of Riverdale are more on edge than ever. Even a friendly gathering at Veronica's house to watch The Matchlorette turned to talk about the murderer on the loose, but it was comments from Veronica's dad, Hiram Lodge, that got Archie to thinking that maybe he should take matters into his own hands.

Archie goes home to retrieve his gun from where he's hidden it under some old comic books, but those comic books end up inspiring his next move. The comics in Archie's hiding place, The Red Circle, feature a group of heroes banding together to defend against threats. The cover even says "drawing a line," "united," and "defying evil" in reference to The Red Circle's mission.

Archie takes this idea to his friends and suggests that they should create a watch group of sorts to patrol the streets and protect their friends and neighbors. Calling themselves The Red Circle, they won't engage the killer, but will offer protection to anyone who needs it. Of course, Archie still has his gun, Reggie seems a little too eager to fight, and no one seems to have a solid plan for encountering the killer short of calling Sheriff Keller, so just how effective the Red Circle will be remains to be seen.

But while we're on the subject of things that remain to be seen, why is Hiram Lodge so interested in encouraging his daughter's boyfriend to take matters into his own hands?

The mysteries continue to unfold on Riverdale, which airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
