Jodie Whittaker will be stepping into Doctor Who‘s iconic lead role later this year. And apparently, Whittaker’s portrayal of the series’ first female Doctor would still steal the heart of a former Who companion.

Over the weekend, one DragonCon attendee asked Billie Piper, about the fan-favorite dynamic between Rose Tyler and the Doctor. According to her tweet, Piper said that her character would “absolutely” be in love with Whittaker’s female portrayal of the Doctor, something Piper later confirmed on her Twitter account.
Yehhhh she would ๐๐น๐๐ป…. Jodie’s a babe xx https://t.co/twHxIGm7YU

This is sure to be welcome news to fans of Piper’s character, as many have believed that Rose is bisexual since long after her Doctor Who tenure.
Piper also spoke about the topic at a Fan Expo Canada panel, arguing that the female Doctor will have a fascinating dynamic with whoever ends up being her companion.
“I think it’ll bring something totally different.” Piper explained. “And I think that in whatever capacity, if they’re going to save the world and travel through time, they’re gonna have to have a strong allegiance. I think this is just the beginning of something really exciting.”
But according to Piper, the rapport between the Doctor and their companion – whether romantic or platonic – stands the test of time, space, and even gender.
“It’s not going to be traditional, it’s going to be more modern, and progressive, but it’ll always have the same.” Piper added. “It’ll always be about needing each other, regardless of whether the Doctor is a girl, or a guy, or a cat. That’s next. The next Doctor is a cat. So, you know, I think it’s always going to be a beautiful, unique [thing] in whatever shape or size. I’m desperate to read those scripts. Oh my god.”
With Piper more than willing to rekindle the flame with Whittaker’s Doctor, here’s hoping Rose appears in one of those eleventh season scripts.
The Doctor Who Christmas Special airs on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2017.
