When TV shows get canceled, series do not often get the chance to linger in the public eye. So, it is a good thing Firefly is not like most shows. The sci-fi series wrapped back in 2002 when Fox plugged the plug on Joss Whedon‘s space-western, but the show has only grown more popular since its cancelation. Firefly now stands as one of television’s biggest cult hits, prompting fans to beg for a one-off reunion year after year. And, now, one of the show’s stars just teased fans hard about a potential reunion.

Over on Instagram, Nathan Fillion made Firefly fans – AKA Browncoats – freak out with a simple post. The actor put up a photo of himself eating with two familiar faces as he was joined by Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk. The trio were seen dining together, and Fillion captioned the picture with a telling tease.

“What do you want to believe we talked about?” Fillion asked.

Of course, the actor’s caption is a direct nod to ever-present rumors regarding a Firefly reboot. Fans have not let up on their pleas for a reboot, and the calls have only increased given Hollywood’s recent interest in nostalgic comebacks.

In the past, the cast of Firefly has said they would return for a second season or miniseries if called. During a panel at New York Comic Con, the cast reunited and said they’d be game so long as it was full-time. Fillion requested everyone be brought back on fully. Fox has even said it would consider bringing back the series under one strict condition: Joss Whedon would have to be on-board. The director may have been small-time when Firefly first came around, but Whedon has since become a Hollywood top-dog thanks to his work on The Avengers and now Justice League.

Still, there would be some fans who would struggle to watch a Firefly reboot now. Browncoats had hoped the series would return with its entire original cast, but one of the show’s biggest characters could not make a comeback now. Sadly, Ron Glass passed away last year at the age of 71. The actor played Shepard Derrial Book on Firefly, and his solemn wisdom was a fan-favorite piece of the show. If Firefly were to move forward, Glass’ role would have to be accounted for with some explanation, and fans would surely be left in tears over the man’s absence.

So, what do you think about this reunion tease? Do you think Fillion is trying to stir up a reaction or could Fox actually be in talks for a reboot? Hit us up on Twitter @ComicBook to let us know.
