I’m 100% Convinced By This Game-Changing Theory About Peacemaker’s Best New Character

Several new characters have been introduced to the DC Universe in Peacemaker season 2, but one of the best might have an incredible secret origin that is explained in this wild fan theory. Unlike its first season, Peacemaker season 2 is set firmly in James Gunn’s rebooted DCU, following on from the animated Creature Commandos series and the live-action Superman reboot. Some aspects of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 have been confirmed to be canon in Peacemaker’s most-recent adventure, but the season has also debuted some new characters and stories in the DCU.

One of these new characters is Langston Fleury (Tim Meadows), an agent of ARGUS who is assigned to supervise John Economos (Steve Agee) in monitoring Peacemaker (John Cena). Fleury has delivered some of Peacemaker season 2’s best jokes and most memorable moments, but a new Reddit theory suggests his true nature might still be hidden. Peacemaker fans believe that Fleury could, in fact, be the DCU’s first Martian character, explaining his poor social skills, awkward comedy, “bird blindness,” and his oft-judgmental attitude. This could even open the door for Martian Manhunter’s DCU debut.

Could Langston Fleury Really Be a Martian in the DCU?

It would actually make a lot of sense for Fleury to be a Martian character โ€“ whether he’s revealed as Martian Manhunter or not. Since he first appeared in Peacemaker season 2, episode 2, “A Man is Only as Good as His Bird,” Fleury has demonstrated his utter lack of social awareness, and his apathy when presented with basic information about his closest colleagues. He’s not bothered to learn names, and prefers to decide on his own, including naming Economos “Ginger Cool,” or, for his ARGUS teammates, the likes of “Mexicali,” “Barely Legal,” Encino Man,” and more.

This lack of social awareness could easily be explained by Fleury being from another planet altogether. Additionally, some fans have pointed out a scene in Peacemaker’s most recent episode, “Ignorance is Chris,” in which Fleury and Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) try to decide what to do about the missing Peacemaker, as particularly odd. Fleury appears to intensely stare at Flag, as if he’s trying to peer inside the ARGUS director’s mind. The Martians’ telepathic powers in DC Comics would make this possible, while revealing him as a Martian could also explain Fleury’s unusual “bird blindness.”

A Martian might not be able to tell the difference between the birds of Earth, but this reveal would make Fleury one of the DCU’s strongest characters. In the DC Extended Universe, Lieutenant General Calvin Swanwick (Harry Lennix) from Man of Steel was outed as Martian Manhunter after theories suggested he was the Martian hero, but we never saw him in action. The same shape-shifting trick could be repeated in the DCU if Fleury is revealed to be J’onn J’onzz, or another Martian character, setting up the comedy actor for a bright future in the DCU after Peacemaker season 2.
