More people played Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies than you’d think: obviously, Ralph Fiennes will always be the headliner, but before him, Richard Bremmer played Voldemort’s disembodied face on the back of Professor Quirrell’s head, and three others played younger versions of Tom Riddle in other movies. First, Christian Coulson took on Riddle for The Chamber of Secrets, and Fear the Walking Dead‘s Frank Dillane played him as a 16-year-old in The Half-Blood Prince. And the final piece in the Riddle puzzle was Hero Fiennes Tiffin, nephew of Ralph, who played the 11-year-old Tom in another sequence of The Half-Blood Prince, and he’s now spoken of a possible return to the franchise.

Ahead of the release of Prime’s excellent Young Sherlock – in which he plays Sherlock Holmes (again, a younger version than the traditional portrayal) – Hero Fiennes Tiffin has spoken to ComicBook.com about earning the role of Tom Riddle and revealed his enthusiasm at the idea of a return to the Wizarding World when HBO’s Harry Potter reboot comes out:
“I 100 percent would [be interested in a role in the reboot]. Of course, I would love to have that conversation. It feels like a lifetime ago to me. I remember when I did the first audition, I never believed that I would ever get close. There were seven or eight call-backs, auditions, that I went in to get. I never realistically believed I would ever get the role. Every time I look back and I watch that scene, I feel even more proud of myself, and I feel quite detached from the person in those scenes. As I said, it feels like a lifetime ago. But, yeah, it was such an honor to be part of such an incredible story. I think if they wanted to call, I would definitely pick up the phone.”
Hero Fiennes Tiffin Would Be Perfect For a Cut Harry Potter Scene

While Hero Fiennes Tiffin has aged out of most of the younger versions of Tom Riddle – at least those shown in the original movies – and isn’t as likely to play the adult version as an established A-lister, there is a perfect opportunity to bring him back. In the original films, Riddle’s desire for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position and subsequent curse of the role was left out entirely, but HBO’s Harry Potter reboot series will have a lot more run-time to play with. So, as part of the expanded Voldemort backstory we’re likely to get, including his invesitation of his Gaunt bloodline, we could see an adult Riddle at the start of his transformation into the Dark Lord heading back to Hogwarts to ask for the job.
By the time that comes around in the fifth season that will adapt The Half-Blood Prince, Hero Fiennes Tiffin will be well into his 30s (he’s currently 28 – almost a decade older than his version of Sherlock Holmes) and could very reasonably convince as the grown Tom Riddle. It would be a great call-back to the original movies that doesn’t act as distracting fan-service, and I think we should all immediately mount a fan campaign to get it to happen, to be honest.
