Two years since her last live-action appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel has returned with a surprising twist in the animated Marvel Zombies series. Brie Larson has played Danvers – a former Air Force pilot who absorbed energy from a Tesseract-powered light-speed engine and received unmatched superpowers – since Captain Marvel. Since then, she has made appearances in Avengers: Endgame and The Marvels, filling in some of a gaps in her timeline while assuring us that she is one of the MCU’s most powerful characters, and Marvel Zombies has taken this to the extreme.

Marvel Zombies’ premiere episode saw Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and Kate Bishop travel from New York to Ohio after acquiring a transmitter that could hold the key to curing the Quantum Virus that has turned millions into zombies. The trio come up against several threats on their journey, especially after traveling through a mysterious canyon that has been carved out of a huge mountain. It’s revealed that this canyon was caused during a never-ending battle between the zombified Captain Marvel and the Eternal Ikaris – played by Richard Madden in Eternals, proving just how powerful Carol Danvers really is.
Marvel Just Admitted Captain Marvel Is A God
Marvel Zombies‘ premiere saw Blade’s Moon Knight reveal that Captain Marvel and Ikaris were locked in an everlasting battle against each other, with neither strong enough to defeat the other. This proves that Captain Marvel is just as strong as the god-like Ikaris, who is a synthetic being imbued with cosmic power by his Celestial creator, Arishem. This highlights the fact that Captain Marvel is indeed one of the MCU’s strongest heroes – and one of the most unpredictable and dangerous villains in Marvel Zombies.
The question of whether Captain Marvel is as strong as the Eternals has been long-discussed online (MCU producer Nate Moore discussed this during a conversation with Screen Rant in 2021), and Marvel Zombies finally provides an answer. At full strength, Danvers is just as powerful as Ikaris, who is considered one of the more powerful members of the Eternals team on Earth, as he harbors a number of impressive powers while the other Eternals only have one speciality. Her never-ending battle against Ikaris is a destructive and catastrophic stalemate.
Captain Marvel using her god-like power for villainy makes her incredibly terrifying, and this is proven when she swiftly kills Kate Bishop without remorse as a harrowing display of her power. While Danvers may not be strong enough to take on all the Eternals collectively – even Ikaris struggled against his own team – she is definitely powerful enough to take them on individually. In the universe of Marvel Zombies, Captain Marvel and Ikaris are destined to battle for eternity – or until Ikaris’ synthetic body literally falls apart – which proves the cosmic Avenger’s strength.
