Original Ahsoka Actress Wants To Return For A Star Wars Spinoff Movie

One of Star Warsโ€™ most beloved characters could be headed to the big screen for their own spinoff movie โ€“ at least if the original Ahsoka Tano voice actress has anything to say about it. George Lucasโ€™ 1977 seminal Star Wars introduced moviegoers to a roster of characters that have stood the test of time and grabbed the spotlight in their own spinoff TV shows and movies over the past several decades. One of the most notable is set to return once more as Dave Filoni’s shared Mandalorian universe continues to play out.

As fans prepare to embark on a new adventure in Jon Favreauโ€™s The Mandalorian & Grogu this summer, Ashley Eckstein said it would be a โ€œdreamโ€ to lead an animated Ahsoka spinoff movie, and fans may be the key to making it happen. Ahsoka first joined the roster of fan-favorite Star Wars characters when Eckstein originated Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan in 2008โ€™s Clone Wars. After portraying all versions of the animated character on the big and small screen up to the newly released series LEGO Star Wars – Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, now streaming on Disney+, Eckstein told ComicBook that there are โ€œa lot more stories left to tellโ€ involving Ahsoka:

“You know, personally, I would love more Ahsoka in animation. And I think there’s a lot more stories left to tellโ€ฆ And you know what? I am going to give you something because this is a dream of mine. I talk a lot about manifesting your dreams. I would love for one day to have an animated Ahsoka movie. I would love that… It’s something I dream about quite often, actually, and I’m a believer, and you’ve got to take your dreams out of your head and throw them out into the universe. So you know what? I will throw that out into the universe. I would love to have an animated Ahsoka movie at some point.”

Eckstein was talking to ComicBook’s Law LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past. You can see the full interview below:

Fans Could Be the Key to an Ahsoka Movie

There currently arenโ€™t any plans for an Ahsoka spinoff Star Wars movie, but Eckstein is convinced that all could change if fans get involved. Opening up about her hopes for a movie centered on the beloved character, she said that โ€œfansโ€™ voices matterโ€ and said that โ€œpeople do listen.โ€ In fact, the Star Wars franchise has fans to thank for bringing Rosario Dawson to the franchise for the live-action Ahsoka series.

โ€œYou know, Dave Filoni came out and admitted that he cast Rosario Dawson because of the fan cast,โ€ Eckstein noted as she encouraged fans to speak out if they want to see an Ahsoka film. โ€œThe fans started asking for her as a token, and that is what brought Rosario to his attention.โ€

Eckstein said that there are “so many stories left to tell. There’s such a big gap still between Clone Wars and where we pick up with the Ahsoka series. There’s so much more for me personally that I would like to do with Asoka. I think there’s a lot more room for Ahsoka in animation. And so if there’s something you want to see, say it.โ€œ

Ashley Eckstein Returns to Ahsoka Character in LEGO Star Wars – Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past

Time will ultimately tell if Ecksteinโ€™s dream of leading an Ahsoka movie comes true, but for now fans can catch her return to the franchise in the new Star Wars series LEGO Star Wars – Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, now streaming on Disney+. The animated sequel series marks the first time Eckstein has returned to voice Ahsoka since 2022โ€™s Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, and the actress admitted that returning to the character she has portrayed across nearly two decades of TV and film was an emotional experience.

โ€œI definitely cried, because Dave Filoni promised me that I’d always be the voice of Ahsoka in animation, but I don’t know if she’s going to come back. Just because I have this promise doesn’t mean we’re going to hear her again. I just kind of sit and wait until I get the call,โ€ she said. โ€œAnd so when I got the call, it was definitely tears of joy for sure.โ€

Eckstein continued, โ€œI’m a massive LEGO fan as well. So to get to do to mashup two of my great loves, LEGO and Star Wars, was really cool.” For now, you can see her as Ahsoka in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, which is available on Disney+ now.
