Next week’s episode of Riverdale will reportedly reveal the identity of Jason Blossom’s killer, with the season finale serving up fallout as “the entire town is reeling” and it all “comes full circle back to Sweetwater River,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly.

It was one of a number of minor spoilers dropped during EW’s finale spoilers column, which also included the revelations that the “core four” characters of Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica would officially pair up, with one couple going “all the way” and the other left in limbo ahead of the season 2 premiere.
“There’s a huge twist ending that sets up the second season. One of our main character’s life hangs in the balance,” Aguirre-Sacasa explained, repeating something that he’s said before.
Jughead will also adopt Hot Dog, his dog from the comics, in the finale — and eat a hamburger, something that fans have been asking for him to do since the second or third episode, when they realized how little he was eating relative to his comic book counterpart.
With Jason’s death being the precipitating event of the season, fans had hoped that the murder would be solved, rather than left as a cliffhanger a la Twin Peaks or The Killing‘s first seasons. Aguirre-Sacasa has always been clear that the murder would, in fact, be solved this season, although most had assumed it would be in the finale.
In “Anatomy of a Murder,” Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are shocked to learn of the arrest but know they need to come clean to their parents about what they uncovered.Still hurt by the betrayal of his friends and torn over who to trust, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) reluctantly joins them in a quest for truth.Meanwhile, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) confronts her mom about why she treats her so much worse than she ever did with Jason.
