1 Weird Peacemaker Moment Was A Way Deeper DC Comics Cut Than it Seemed

One of the weirdest moments in Peacemaker season 2 might have actually been a fantastic DC Comics deep cut for James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Set firmly in the rebooted DCU, Peacemaker season 2 has introduced a number of entertaining and powerful characters into the new franchise, but we’ve only scratched the surface of how incredible these new characters are. We caught a glimpse of one of the DCU’s most impressive powers in Peacemaker season 2, episode 4, “Need I Say Door,” and a new theory suggests this could be even more important to the DCU.

At the end of “Need I Say Door,” eagle hunter Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker) performed a ritual and tapped into some magical energies in order to track down Peacemaker’s pet eagle, Eagly. This confirmed that Rooker’s new culturally-appropriating hunter is actually a Metahuman, and a new Reddit theory suggests Red St. Wild could have been harnessing his namesake โ€“ the Red. The introduction of the Red into the DCU could be a game-changer for many iconic heroes from DC Comics.

First seen in DC Comics in 1988’s Animal Man #1, the Red, also known as the Life Web or the Morphogenetic Field, is a force that connects all animals and plant life around the world. Tapping into the force is how man animal-themed heroes and villains gain their powers in DC Comics, including Maxine Baker’s Animal Girl, Mari McCabe’s Vixen, Garfield Logan’s Beast Boy, Barbara Minerva’s Cheetah, and many more are connected to the Red, and, in the DCU, Red St. Wild could be among them thanks to his affinity with eagles.

Peacemaker season 2, episode 5, “Back to the Suture,” saw Red St. Wild track Eagly to Christopher Smith’s (John Cena) cabin in the woods, where Eagly revealed himself to actually be the Prime Eagle. He targeted his winged allies on St. Wild, culminating in the character’s gruesome and ironic demise, so it may never be confirmed whether he tapped into the Red or not. Even so, the Red could be revealed to be harnessed by many other animal-themed heroes in the DCU’s future.

Kendra Saunders’ Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Krypto the Superdog, Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle (Xolo Maridueรฑa), Gorilla Grodd, several members of Belle Reve’s Non-Human Internment Division, and more could all have access to the Red. This force, as well as other similarly-colored forces of nature, such as the Green (connected to Swamp Thing), the Black, the White, and more, could all play a key role in the DCU going forward. This could give more weight to Red St. Wild’s death in Peacemaker season 2, while Michael Rooker has teased his return in a bigger role in the future.
