McIntyre confirmed to ESPN that he’s back with WWE. A report at WWE.com states, “The dormer WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre has returned with his eye locked firmly on the NXT Championship.”
A former TNA World Champion, Drew McIntyre joins a growing list of TNA stars who let their contracts expire to return to the WWE. McIntyre made his debut for WWE back in 2009 and remained on the main roster until 2014. Since then, he’s wrestled for independent promotions around the world and won multiple championships while doing so.

McIntyre seemed poised for greatness in his initial run with WWE, even gaining “The Chosen One” moniker from Vince McMahon, however he would soon fall into mid and lower card obscurity as a jobber to the stars in the Three Man Band faction with Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater.
Like so many WWE stars who left the company, McIntyre revamped his image on the indy scene and built himself back up to the point where WWE couldn’t ignore him.
Bringing him back to NXT will give WWE creative a chance to show the WWE Universe the new side of McIntyre for a year or so before bringing him back to the main roster.
With several big name NXT call-ups expected to happen this week, McIntyre will add a new amount of excitement to Wednesday night programming.
