Top 5 Undertaker Opponents We Want Him To Face Before Retirement

With the news of WWE’s living legend, the Undertaker has been seen walking around with the aid of crutches, the rumors spread instantly about the Deadman’s remaining time and the question of retirement in the near future. That being said, speculation of Taker’s retirement has been the discussion for the last several years, but the Phenom keeps surprising us and giving us that “one more match”.

But in all seriousness, at the age of 51 and his best years behind him, the Undertaker has been a staple of the WWE for more than 25 years. With pinfall victories over the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, to Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, Batista, even Hulk Hogan, the Undertaker is in a class all of his own with a legacy that will never die.

Considering the members of the New Era that could present a challenge for the Undertaker down the line, the list is massive, but really thinking about who we’d love to see Taker take on before hanging up his boots for good had us figure out some scenarios that would embody “dream match”.

Here are the Top 5 wrestlers we’d love to see Undertaker face before his retirement.

Finn Balor

Finn Balor hasn’t been in the WWE for too long, but has quickly risen through the ranks of the New Era and became the first WWE Universal Champion. Although that victory was short-lived, his resume outside of WWE is more than impressive and the man who calls himself the Demon King could be taken very seriously.ย

The Undertaker has surrounded himself with demons for most of his career and he doesn’t dress like Satan anymore, he’s definitely still down with the devil. Finn’s theatrics aside, he’s an established performer and has taken on some of the sport’s biggest stars and has tangled with some of WWE’s biggest names as well, including two on this list.ย

Balor will be out for several months, but a WrestleMania return is still very likely. What better way to make an impact than to get ready for a match with the Deadman himself and see who is the bigger demon in the ring?

Roman Reigns

The Big Dog of the WWE, Roman Reigns has faced his own series of controversies, but bounced back and has reclaimed a part of the winner’s circle having recently won the United States Championship.ย

Now in his career, Reigns has faced off some legit competition from Triple H, Brock Lesnar, and especially his feuds with Rusev, Dean Ambrose, and of course Seth Rollins. Reigns has been one of the new standout faces of the company and already a three-time WWE World Champion, but hasn’t faced off against somebody like the Undertaker.ย

Both men were the juggernauts of their generation and a match up like this could bring in someย serious fanfare. Even though Reigns finds himself receiving more boos than cheers, you can’t deny his power and speed in the ring. Taker has taken out bigger opponents in his career, and even with the Streak, gave legitimacy to his competitors. A match with Reigns could be great for both men should it happen down the line.ย

Goldberg

Who’s next?ย

That was the question asked across the wrestling world in the late 90’s as Bill Goldberg was plucked from obscurity and given a streak of his own. Undefeated for 15 months in WCW, Goldberg became one of WCW’s first megastars that they created all their own and even as WCW World Champion, he didn’t even give an interview until months after getting the gold.ย

That’s the mystique of Goldberg. Eventually, he did find himself in the WWE, but it wasn’t what fans had anticipated. True, we got some dream matches out of it (his first match was with the Rock of all people), they left plenty to be desired.ย

Fans dreamed of a match featuring Undertaker and Goldberg for almost 20 years and with Goldberg making a heavily-rumored return to the WWE in the coming months, what better match up for the ages and giving the fans what they wanted for so long. The Jackhammer versus the Tombstone. Make it happen, WWE!ย

The Man. The Undisputed Future. The Architect.ย

Seth Freakin’ Rollins.ย

A two-time WWE World Champion, Seth initially made a name for himself as the daredevil of The Shield and eventual turncoat, and first WWE Champion younger than WrestleMania. He is also the first NXT Champion and the first man to hold NXT, ROH, and WWE World Championships.ย

But in his career of firsts, Rollins has never had the chance to step into the ring with the Undertaker. He’s beaten John Cena, Sting, and some of today’s top talent, but a match with the Deadman would truly cement Rollins’ already impressive resume as the absolute best of his generation.ย

It’s been rumored that Rollins will eventually face off against Triple H leading into the weeks of WrestleMania, but should he take on Triple H before then, Seth has all the right in the world to call out the Deadman for what could be a hell of a match.ย

Okay, this one should have happened a long while ago, but for some reason or another The Face That Runs The Place and The Phenom have yet to reach each other on a main stage like, say, WrestleMania.ย

True they have faced one another on SmackDown! pay-per-views back in 2003 when Cena’s star was just on the rise, but now with both men as bonafide future Hall of Famers, now would be the right time to strike if this would beย the retirement match for Undertaker.ย

Both men are the faces of their generation. Taker, the last star of the New Generation and Attitude Era, has done it all but the match-up with Cena is something that is truly once in a lifetime and embodies the very idea of what a “fantasy match up” can be.ย

Taker has proved himself against some of the best in the world, but could he hold off the force and power that is John Cena? Time can only tell if the fans are gifted this match.ย

Honorable Mention: Sting

What list would be complete without mentioning The Man They Call Sting? An Undertaker and Sting match could’ve been the end all be all of fantasy match ups.ย

The problem? Coming up with this list, only active roster performers were considered. Sting retired earlier this year during his acceptance speech into the WWE Hall of Fame. It wouldn’t be fair to exclude him here, but it appears for now at least, that this dream match will be just that: a dream.
