At the Atlanta Film Festival, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is shooting in the city, they screened the first film, with a Q&A after the film with writer/director James Gunn and actor Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu in the films. Gunn did manage to sneak a little bit of information about the sequel out into the wild.
"It's been a lot of hard work, honestly," he said of GOTG V2. "It's a much bigger film. Also at the same time, a much more intimate film, more character-driven in certain ways, so it's just a lot of work. And everybody has been on their game."
Gunn praised a couple of the new actors in particular.
"The new cast members... Kurt Russell has been incredible. And Pom Klementieff, who plays a new Guardian [Mantis] has been just, she blows me away," Gunn said. "She's really been perfect."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is shooting now for a May 5, 2017 release.
