When news broke that Kurt Russell had signed onto Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, most believed the legendary actor to play Star-Lord's father. They were right, but what many didn't expect was for Kurt to be cast as Ego the Living Planet as well. The appearance of the infamous villain took people for a loop, making many wonder how Kurt would fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And, now, the actor is talking about whether his role could extend into the future of the MCU.

Kurt recently sat down for an interview with Fandango at the Toronto International Film Festival to talk about his superhero stint. "We had a great time on that film — it was a lot of fun," he said, describing filming as a great experience.

"That guy James Gunn really knows what he's doing; he's real sharp," Kurt continued. "And all the cast is great -- I had a great time working with Chris [Pratt]."

But, when the actor was asked about his future in the MCU, Kurt clammed up a bit. He was likely hesitant to spill any inadvertent secrets about his status in franchise should it spoil anything about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Speaking about his on-screen future, Kurt said, "What you'd have to do is put your mind to it. You have to sit down and say, these are my issues -- these are my questions. I'm an audience too. We all run into our own integrity no matter what, as much as I hate to admit it. I need to find a way that this is going to grow and be fun...Right now I got part of it -- we have to see. I don't know. I don't know if I fit into that mold."

If you're confused by the actor's word, then that is a good thing. Kurt's word say little more than you'll have to wait until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to find out if he will reappear in the MCU. However, it does look like the actor is thinking seriously about his future with Marvel, so here's to hoping Marvel Studios finds a fun way to keep Kurt around.

Of course, Kurt isn't the only iconic actor to grace the MCU. Legends such as Jeff Bridges and Robert Redford have starred in Iron Man and and Captain America: The Winter Soldier respectively. Recently, Michael Douglas took on the role of Hank Pym in Ant-Man, and Sylvester Stallone is set to star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Kurt Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.
