Agents of SHIELD: Clark Gregg Hints At Fate Of Ghost Rider, Coulson, Fitz

Coulson just can't seem to stay out of trouble, a knack witnessed by fans on the most recent episode of Agents of SHIELD. It was an unexpected death, especially in regards to Ghost Rider, who just debuted this season, but when it comes to Coulson, nothing is ever set in stone.

Actor Clark Gregg recently chatted with EW about the trio's fate, which was in doubt thanks to Coulson, Ghost Rider, and Fitz getting caught in an explosion caused by Eli Morrow.

"The more sophisticated audience members will suspect that Coulson may not be dead in episode 6 of season 4, and probably the same goes for Fitz and young Robbie Reyes."

In that episode, it was revealed that Morrow was behind the original event that turned everyone at the facility into ghost-like phantoms, and in keeping with his villainous nature he attempted to reproduce the experiment in the present. The three disappeared after the explosion, leading fans to believe that either they had been vaporized or that his experiment worked on them.

Odds are that the three of them are in a similar ghost-like form, or at least, that would be one way to get them back into the realm of the living. With Coulson, it's an easy bet that he isn't leaving just yet.

In Agents of SHIELD Season 4, in light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, SHIELD has been legitimatized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows. Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director (Jason O'Mara) to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack (Henry Simmons), and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. They have been trying to track down and capture Daisy (Chloe Bennet), aka Quake, who has gone rogue in an attempt to atone for sins from the past. But with the world believing that Daisy is a dangerous outlaw who has taken down banks and bridges, the new Director has no qualms about taking her down for good. Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) have taken a big step forward in their relationship. But with Simmons' new promotion as Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology, Fitz, as well as her former team members, finds it hard to confide in or trust her since she's now the Director's confidant.
