Pirates of the Caribbean has become a worldwide phenomenon, churning out five movies with a sixth on the way to tune of about $3 billion. Yes, BILLION.
But before the original Curse of the Black Pearl was lifted and the film was just announced, a lot of people wondered whether a movie based on a boring pirate ride at Disneyland could even be successful.
One of those people was the series' star Keira Knightley. Oh, how time has proven her wrong.
That anecdote was relayed by her Love, Actually director, Richard Curtis, who recently penned a commentary for Radio Times about the film and its reunion followup for Red Nose Day 2017.
In it, he's talking about how well the cast of the original film is currently doing, many of them now superstars including The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln and Doctor Strange's Chiwetel Ejiofor, and how far they've come since making Love, Actually.

Then Curtis puts Knightley on blast, revealing what she said to him when they were making the movie.
"When we shot the film, I remember Keira Knightley saying that her next project was 'some pirate thing – probably a disaster.' That turned out to be Pirates of the Caribbean, in which Bill Nighy was also later a be-tentacled Davy Jones."
Ouch, ye of little faith.
Knightley is rumored to appear in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, though she hasn't been billed in the credits thus far nor shown in any of the trailers. But her on-screen husband Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, is shown in the trailer.
And it was recently revealed that one of the new stars played by Brenton Thwaites is in fact Henry Turner, son of Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner.
Will mom be showing up to give young Henry some advice in dealing with Jack Sparrow? We'll find out when the extremely successful Pirates of the Caribbean returns to theaters May 26, with Dead Men Tell No Tales.
