The Marvel Cinematic Universe is teeming with dozens of superheroes, but longtime comic readers are still wondering why one cosmic character has been kept MIA. It seems like fans go into every Marvel films hoping that the studio will finally introduce the one and only Adam Warlock, but their wish has not been granted as of yet. Many had hoped that Guardians of the Galaxy would be the film to bring in the character, but James Gunn only hinted at the powerful hero with an easter egg. And, sadly, it seems as if the film's sequel will overlook Adam despite its use of his sister Ayesha.
However, at one point, it looks like the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 did plan to have Adam Warlock take part in the movie.
As reported by SlashFilm, Gunn recently revealed that Adam Warlock was originally included in the sequel's script during a junket.
"I love Adam Warlock. He's one of my favorite characters. In all truth, I wrote an early treatment where I had Adam Warlock as a part...this is your big scoop, because I don't think I've told anybody this... It was Adam Warlock."
"He was a big part of the screenplay and I realized it was one character too many. And I adored the character. I adored what we had done with him. I think we did something really creative and unique with Adam Warlock. But it was one character too many and I didn't want to lose Mantis and Mantis was more organically part of the movie anyway. So I decided to save him for later."
In the past, Gunn did tell the press that the sequel's script had to cut out a character during its first treatments. Now, it seems like fans have finally learned which Marvel character had to be cut.
For those of you unfamiliar with Adam Warlock, then you have a bit of history to catch up on. The character is a popular one which debuted during the Silver Age of comics, and the being was made as a perfect artificial human. Both Adam and his sister Ayesha then rebelled against their creators, and Adam further enhanced his power after he was gifted with the green Soul Gem, one of the many Infinity Stones which Thanos will seek in Avengers: Infinity War.
