Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that the next three DLC characters for Injustice 2 will be revealed during a special celebrity showdown next week at Gamescom.

Fighter Pack 2, which will contain the next set of Injustice 2 fighters, will be shown off during a “fight to the death” between world-famous DJs Steve Aoki and Don Diablo.

The two are going to go head-to-head on August 23rd at 11AM BST which, we’re so sorry to say, is 5AM Central time. The fight will be on PS4, and the first DJ to win three matches will be declared the winner. The entire event will be livestreamed on the Twitch frontpage as well as NetherRealm’s Twitch channel, which can be found at twitch.tv/netherrealm.

From the victor’s spoils, there will be a donation of $5,000 to be made to the Aoki Foundation, founded by Steve Aoki with the primary goal of finding advances in brain science through funding research in regenerative medicine and brain preservation. The foundation also supports humanitarian causes dear and near to Steve Aoki such as disaster relief, developmental disabilities, and animal-rights.

So who will be revealed? Two possibilities stand out from the others.

Black Manta Seems Like a Sure Bet

Speculation has been rampant, and we’ve been grasping at some serious straws lately. NetherRealm has given us some pretty clear hints as to who might show up, but with NetherRealm you never know — they’ve trolled us with silhouette DLC teases in the past, and they could do it again.

If we take them at their word, then we can at least guess that Raiden and Black Manta are coming. Those are the only two instantly recognizable shapes in most recent teaser image, and NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon has even called out Black Manta by name in an interview.

This is significant, because right before Fighter Pack 1 was revealed, Boon stated in an interview with WWGย that fans had been requesting Starfire and Red Hood. We thought it was strange and exciting that Ed Boon would mention these two characters by name, and sure enough, when the veil was lifted on Fighter Pack 1, Red Hood and Starfire were confirmed.

Boon knows that mentioning a character by name is bound to make headlines, and he didn’t seem shy at all about dropping Black Manta’s name. I think we can count on that one. We also have another piece of convincing evidence from Boon that indicates Spawn could be on the way.

Spawn Also Seems Likely

Whenever Boon mentions a character’s name outright, that seems to provide pretty good reason to believe that that character could make it to the Injustice 2 roster. And look here, we have some great evidence indicating that Spawn could be on the way as well. Check out these polls from before Injustice 2 launched:

Boon was gauging interest for certain characters, and the fans made their voices heard. We saw that in the Mortal Kombat guest character poll, taken long before the launch of Injustice 2, fans voted and said that they wanted to see Sub-Zero in the game. Now Sub-Zero is a playable character. In the poll taken for a non-MK guest fighter, there was overwhelming support for Spawn.

I don’t know about you guys, but I have pretty good faith in the fact that this pattern will hold true, and that we’ll eventually see Spawn. Whether he shows up in Fighter Pack 2 or not we can’t say, but we’re hoping that by this time next week we’ll be geeking out about his reveal.

What do you think?

Will we see the dream team next week?
