Sailor Moon Crystal To Get Anime Sequel

It's a great time to be a Sailor Scout. Or, at the very least, a fan of the intergalactic heroes who make up the Sailor Moon series. 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic magical girl series, and it does not look like the brand is going to let the occasion go uncelebrated. Earlier today, the official website for Sailor Moon updated its landing page to confirm that a brand-new anime was in the works that acts as a sequel to Sailor Moon Crystal.

So far, there is no word on the sequel and what it may contain. Fans will be familiar with the original Sailor Moon Crystal series as it debuted back in 2014. The animation was an adaptation of the original Sailor Moon series created by Naoko Takeuchi. Helmed by Toei Animation, the series streamed around the world starting in July 2014 before it ended a year later. Instead of the new anime being a remake of the original anime, Toei marketed Sailor Moon Crystal as a reboot that followed its source manga more closely. And, of course, the series got an updated art style that included fantastical 3D CGI scenes and more.

Along with the new anime announcement, the team behind Sailor Moon also drops a few other tidbits of news. For one, it was confirmed that the original Sailor Moon anime would get its first-ever Blu-ray treatment. The home release has been announced for Japan so far, but international fans are hopeful that western territories will get the same treatment. The first volume of Sailor Moon will go on sale abroad in June before the second half retails in August. Blu-ray releases for Sailor Moon's theatrical films were also announced through no release date has been attached to them.

If you have not seen any of Sailor Moon Crystal, then you have time to catch up. The anime houses three season as the third made its way to the Internet last April. The show caught up to the manga's 'Death Busters' arc, and Crunchyroll is currently streaming every episode of Sailor Moon Crystal. You know, if you were wanting to binge it.
