Dragon Ball Super‘s Tournament of Power gave fans a pretty exciting first half, but the tournament’s second half is where we’ll see final bids and schemes for victory really come to light.

Well, no one in Dragon Ball lore has schemes that are bigger or more devious than those of Freeza. And, although it looks like the universal conqueror may have done something benevolent recently (donating some of his own energy to help Goku recover from his battle from Jiren), a lot fans just aren’t buying that Freeza has suddenly become a team player.
So what are Freeza’s big plans to wreak havoc in on the Tournament of Power? Let’s break down the popular theories:
Freeza Schemes
As you can see, Redditย threads are on fire with speculation with what Freezaย was up to by helping Goku!
One interesting observation is how Freezaย giving energy to Gokuย and mentioning that is now free of any debts to his Saiyanย rival is a nice little call back to the ending ofย Dragon Ball Z’sย Freezaย Saga, in which Gokuย donates some of his own energy to Freeza, in order to help the villain get off of Namekย before it exploded. Freezaย doesn’t want his infamous reputation marred, so he repays his debt to Gokuย in private.
While that’s a great observation, and certainly seems accurate, it still doesn’t exclude that Freezaย probably had ulterior motives for doing what he did…
As stated, this second half of the Tournament of Power will see the various fighters from across the different universes going all-out in their final bids for victory. There have already been teases of Jirenย revealing his final form, a powerful new fighter (possibly a fusion) entering the ring, and Goku finally mastering his Ultra Instinct power. However, in the midst of all that, we’ve also gotten teases of Freezaย stepping in to systematically eliminate competition!
Freeza Betrayal
So what could Freezaย be after?
Well, we all know that for Freezaย the tournament isn’t a battle against death and destruction – for Freeza, it’s a actually a battle for life, as he can be permanentlyย resurrected by the Super Dragon Balls, made immortal, or even usurp the power of Beerusย and other Gods of Destruction for himself! However, theย key to making that power-play is getting Universe 7 through the tournament, and onto the victory podium.ย
The villain has been quite observantย about the new levels of power and technique that have been revealed during the tournament. It’s a safe bet that he’s been calculating Universe 7’s path to victory this whole time, and knows that relying on his Saiyanย rivals is the best way to get there.
With Gokuย now tapping into Ultra Instinct, Freezaย had both the perfect weapon to aim at the rest of the fighters in the tournament, and a potential road map to a new power. Fans shouldn’t be at all surprised if (when) the dust of the tournament settles (including the Saiyanย battle royale we’re hoping for!), Freezaย finally makes his shady scheme known.ย
