Netflix hasn’t just been housing classic anime series as a part of its roster; the streaming service has regularly created major originals to help cement its place in the anime medium. While it’s debatable if KPop Demon Hunters can be qualified as an anime, the animated project has taken off in the popularity department and joins an ever-expanding library. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Pluto, Beastars, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, and many more have proven Netflix’s anime commitment, and one of the biggest originals of the platform has revealed its first trailer alongside a release window.

Baki-Dou is the next anime chapter of Baki The Grappler’s anime and is set to land in 2026. The next storyline will take place following the battle between Baki and his father, Yujiro Hanma, wherein the son was finally able to defeat the Ogre. Now the strongest creature in the world, Baki and his friends appear to be fighting against a boredom streak, but the anime universe has appeared to provide a cure for their current status. The legendary real-life swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, has been resurrected and is giving the titular character and his allies a brand new opponent to face. While the swordsman might not be an unfrozen caveman or the Ogre, he’ll still be a force to be reckoned with. You can check out the new trailer below.
The Son of The Ogre Returns
If you need a more thorough breakdown of Baki-Dou, here’s how Netflix describes the next series in Baki The Grapler, “BAKI-DOU” is based on the comic of the same name by Keisuke Itagaki that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2014 to 2018. Following the conclusion of the greatest father-son fight on earth, Baki and other legendary fighters are overcome with unbearable boredom. Meanwhile, 364 meters beneath Tokyo Skytree, a secret plan is set into motion that seeks to revive the master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi…
The description continues, “Unleashed in the present day, this menacing new threat wields his swordsmanship with unparalleled power and speed to attack Baki and the others. It’s the strongest underground arena fighters vs. the legendary swordsman! What will be the outcome of this mixed martial arts battle that crosses time and space? The history of strength is about to change!”
Luckily, Baki will still have material to adapt when Baki-Dou comes to an end. Creator Keisuke Itagaki has spent decades forging the story of the son of the Ogre and has released no plans to stop anytime soon. Ironically enough, Keisuke’s manga skills appear to run in the family as Paru Itagaki, his daughter, is the creator of Netflix’s Beastars, a popular anime adaptation that is quite different from her father’s story. While an official crossover between these two franchises might be impossible, the Itagaki family has earned their place in the anime world all the same.
