Netflix’s Death Note Debuts Terrifying Clip Of Light Meeting Ryuk

San Diego Comic Con is in full-force, and Netflix dropped by the event to tout some of its hotly anticipated projects. Death Note became a hot topic with attendees as Netflix shared a new clip of the movie which highlighted Light and Ryuk’s meeting. And, now, the terrifying clip has made its way online.

In the video above, fans can watch a rather dark scene where Light meets the Shinigami who is the overseer of his Death Note. The character is shown sitting down when Ryuk makes himself know, saying, “Shall we being?”

Understandably, Light freaks out at the voice, and he pretends he cannot see Ryuk standing in all his demonic glory. The character, who is played by Nat Wolff, tells himself there really isn’t a 8-foot tall demon “motherf*cker” standing across from him and that is is all a dream. Stil, Ryuk manages to convince the boy he is real, and he does so with one deadly promise.

Directing Light to a window, Ryuk asks the boy to look at what is happening outside. Light sees a couple of school bullies picking on a neighborhood girl, and Ryuk tells the boy he can save the victim if he just writes the boys’ names down. Ryuk explains a bit of how the Death Note works before Light writes down one of the bully’s names with his preferred more of death: decapitation.

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

Death Note will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 25, 2017.
