New Regular Show: The Lost Tapes Preview Hints at The Horrible Fate of Pops

Regular Show: The Lost Tapes has brought back Mordecai and Rigby to big success. With the first batch of installments arriving earlier this year, one of the strengths of the spin-off is how unrestricted by the timeline it is. For those who don’t know, Lost Tapes takes place at random times throughout the series, meaning that various characters can return even if they met an untimely fate. One of these characters just so happens to be Pops, who helped kick off the series by revealing that the “Lost Tapes” referred to VHS tapes he was watching in the afterlife. From a new preview, Pops is in serious trouble.

As Regular Show fans know, Pops lost his life in the original series finale while fighting against his nefarious brother, Anti-Pops. Now in the afterlife, Pops is enjoying his time by revisiting the stories of his previous life but watches them so much that he needs to find new tapes once they break from use. The premiere of The Lost Tapes sees Pops breaking into a secret vault housing the “Lost Tapes” and it seems that his trespass is catching up with him. The preview briefly highlights Pops alongside what appears to be Benjamin Franklin and a new character in the underworld, seemingly facing down a larger-than-life demon. The Lost Tapes Return

Regular Show: The Lost Tapes will once again return to Cartoon Network later this month on September 19th. While several installments arrived earlier this year, fans can still look forward to plenty of new adventures as the spin-off has confirmed to house over forty episodes for its initial run. With the creators of the side series already sharing their love of returning to weave new tales in the franchise, and the popularity of Lost Tapes so far, it’s possible that even more installments will be confirmed past the initial run.

Earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, we here at ComicBook.com had the chance to discuss the spin-off with the creators of The Lost Tapes. While the series has already explored several different aspects of the timeline, the adult iterations of Mordecai and Rigby, from the original series finale, have yet to make an appearance. While not confirming that the adults would return, Executive Producer Sean Szeles didn’t close the door completely, “People should watch the entirety of the season. We did make forty episodes, and we’ve only released ten so far. We have thirty more to go. That’s all I’ll say. You might see them; you might not.” Whether these versions of Rigby and Mordecai return, there are plenty of installments for them to potentially appear beginning later this month.
