Anime revivals are nothing new in the medium, with series like Trigun, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and many more coming back from “the dead” to tell new stories in the anime world. Earlier this year, a surprising sequel series was announced as the Ronin Warriors are set to return early next year. With the arrival of a new trailer, the series is often referred to as “Samurai Troopers” and has introduced the other new teammates to slap on the legendary armor. With the debut of the team in its entirety, the voice actors bringing the armored warriors to life might be familiar to anime fans.

New main character Gai, who will be donning the traditional “Armor of Wildfire,” will be joined by four heroes known as Kaito Uesugi, Shion Ishida, Yamato Hojo, and Musashi Hojo. Each of these warriors is voiced by actors who have been a part of some other major anime franchises. Kaito will be voiced by Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen), Shion will be voiced by Kentaro Kumagai (Laios from Delicious in Dungeon), Yamato will be voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi (Zodyl from Gachiakuta), and Musashi will be voiced by Ayumu Murase (Shoyo from Haikyu!!). Set to arrive in January of next year, the sequel series will be the first time that a new episode of Ronin Warriors has aired in over thirty-seven years.

Ronin Warriors’ Big Comeback
If you want to catch up on the original series that started it all before the new Ronin Warriors hit the scene in January of next year, the anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Here’s how the streaming service describes the story that started it all, “Long ago, there existed an evil spirit that waged a war to conquer the human world. Defeat drove him back to the realm of darkness, but not before vowing to return and exact his revenge. A thousand years later, the world has all but forgotten the name of Arago, Emperor of Doom. When black clouds smother the bright city lights of Shinjuku, and a sinister laugh drowns out the dying hum of electricity, the people of the world plunge into terror, unprepared for the evil spirit’s return!”
Roning Warriors hit North America originally on Saturday mornings, but would then arrive as a part of Toonami’s anime roster, helping to elevate it to new heights. Holding quite a bit in common with “Sentai” series like the Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, the story of the armored warriors resonated amongst fans of anime and animation alike. Since this sequel series takes place long after the original anime’s events, it will be interesting to see if any of the original characters will make a return or if this will be an entirely new chapter for the titular characters. Regardless, seeing this franchise make a comeback wasn’t predicted by many anime fans, considering how long ago the original anime ended.
