A Shonen Jump Classic Is Returning With New Movie After 10 Years

One classic Shonen Jump series is returning with a brand new movie ten years after its anime first made its premiere. Shonen Jump is undoubtedly having a wild year as not only is the magazine bringing multiple series to an end, at the same time many of its classic franchises are returning in some form. These can either be returning to the magazine itself with new sequels like with the recent launch of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s own sequel, but also many of its franchises are coming back with brand new anime projects many years after first hitting our TV screens with their original runs.

This is the case for Yusei Matsui’s Assassination Classroom. While the creator is currently in the pages of Shonen Jump magazine with their newest work, The Elusive Samurai (which is currently in the works on its anime’s second season), fans of the creator are likely more going to remember them for Assassination Classroom. As the anime franchise celebrates the 10th anniversary of its original debut, it has been announced that Assassination Classroom is coming back with a brand new movie showing off never before seen materials. Check out the announcement teaser and poster below.

Assassination Classroom Returning With New Movie After 10 Years

As part of the celebration for the anime’s tenth anniversary, Assassination Classroom has announced it’s coming back with a brand new movie. Titled Assassination Classroom the Movie: Everybody’s Time, the new film is teased by Matsui to be a continuation of the original anime. Adapting materials that didn’t make it to the original TV series along with also teasing a brand new story overall, this new Assassination Classroom movie will be hitting theaters in Japan on March 20, 2026. As of this initial announcement, unfortunately, potential international release plans have yet to be revealed.

Assassination Classroom the Movie: Everybody’s Time will feature Masaki Kitamura directing for Studio Lerche, the production studio behind the original TV anime. Makoto Uezu will be providing the screenplay and Aya Higami will be providing the character designs, but it has yet to be revealed whether or not any cast members from the TV series’ cast will be returning to reprise their respective roles. But it’s a monumental return either way as this new movie will be launching ten years after that original anime came to an end.

As Assassination Classroom celebrates the anime’s tenth anniversary, it’s also the perfect time to look back on just how big of an impact the franchise has had. While it only ran for a single batch of 47 episodes, the anime continued with OVA specials, and even two live-action films bringing it all to life. This new anime comeback is going to be the first proper anime release for the franchise in that decade, so now is the perfect time to catch up with the original TV anime now streaming with platforms like Hulu and Crunchyroll in the meantime.

Assassination Classroom focused on a class of kids who were tasked with assassinating their teacher before a certain time, but the twist was that their teacher was actually an all-powerful alien being that came to test humanity with this mission in the first place. Not only did fans grow to love the teacher (depending on where the manga was released, it was banned in some areas), but the class as well as their assassin school lives brought them through all sorts of wacky adventures.
