After a nearly season long absence, the CW has confirmed that Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant will return to Supergirl next season as a recurring guest star.

Flockhart was one of the main cast members in Supergirl's first season, but she barely appeared in Season 2 after the show switched from CBS to the CW and moved production from Hollywood to Vancouver.

Supergirl explained away Cat Grant's absence by having her take a leave of absence from her media conglomerate CatCo to find happiness. However, she returned in the final arc of the season after a Daxamite army invaded National City. The season ended with Cat Grant implying that she both knew Supergirl's secret identity and also was planning on staying in National City for the foreseeable future.

It's unclear what role Grant will have in Season 3 or how often she'll appear. "The way that Calista appears in the first episode is really clever," star Melissa Benoist told reporters at SDCC.

Supergirl Season 3 is set to return to The CW later on Monday, October 9th, at 8/7c. Stay tuned to for all of the news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con, where we'll be speaking with the stars and have a live panel report for all of your favorite DC Comics shows on the CW.

"Ridding National City of Queen Rhea and her Daxamite army was a major win for Supergirl, but one that came at a significant cost, as Kara was forced to sacrifice her budding relationship with Mon-El. When season three returns with all-new supercharged adventures this fall on The CW, Kara and team will come up against a new threat in the form of DC Worldkiller, Reign. Want to know more about Reign and what she has in store for the Girl of Steel? Based on the DC Comics character, Supergirl AKA Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero who she was always meant to be on The CW series, Supergirl.

Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, SUPERGIRL is executive produced by Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "The Flash"), Ali Adler ("The New Normal"), Andrew Kreisberg ("The Flash," "Arrow") and Sarah Schechter ("Blindspot," "The Mysteries of Laura"). Supergirl is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and appearing in DC Comics, by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family.
