Over the past month, Chyler Leigh, the 35-year-old actress who portrays Alex Danvers, has been teasing a new development in Alex and Maggie’s relationship. She said that whatever this next step is, which she described as a “big deal,” comes up when the couple realize just how serious they are about each other.

During a recent appearance on EW’s SiriusXM radio show Superhero Insider, Leigh provided new details about what the catalyst is that has Maggie and Alex wanting to take their relationship to the next level. “Episode 19 is a very big episode for the both of them just because it comes to dire circumstances, where it’s a situation of a rescue,” Leigh shared. “It causes Kara and Maggie to have to rely on each other to figure out what happened to Alexโฆ You have to see how they work together, and you have to see how they’re both fighting for the person that they love, that they care about, and how that can take a toll if you have differing opinions, different ways that you kill aliens. It’s this really great example of how deep all of the relationships are, but it really does put Maggie and Alex to the test in a very great way, but it’s rather dire.”
The next new Supergirl episode is “Ace Reporter,” and it is the eighteenth episode of the season and will air Monday, April 24, so the episode Leigh is referring to will air on the first of May.
Lena’s (guest star Katie McGarth) ex-boyfriend, Jack Spheer (guest star Rahul Kohli), comes to National City to unveil his big breakthrough in nano-technology, which has the potential to eradicate all diseases.
