Pokemon Go
is celebrating its first birthday with a new event centered around a new Pikachu variant. While “Ash Hat Pikachu” is the big draw, Pokemon Go also released a new “box” of items that players can buy in the in-game store for 1,200 coins.

While the box is supposed to bundle items together at a discount, it’s not a very good deal for players.

The box contains a variety of items, most of which can be purchased in the store already. The box contains six Egg Incubators, six Max Revives, two Premium Raid Passes, and 20 Ultra Balls. Both the Ultra Balls and Max Revives can be obtained for free from PokeStops and gyms, and the Max Revives were also just added to the store with the last update.

Here’s a breakdown of the box and their individual values:

Six Egg Incubators: 900 Coins

Six Max Revives: 180 Coins

Two Premium Passes: 200 Coins

Those three sets of items cost a total of 1,280 Coins when purchased individually. So, players are basically getting a 6.25% discount…which doesn’t seem like a very good deal.

You could argue that the Ultra Balls give the Anniversary Box some extra value, but it still feels like a ripoff, especially when compared to the boxes from the last event. The original Holiday Boxes offered items at a discounted rate between 15% and 40%, which seems like a much more lucrative deal.

We’ll have to see if Pokemon Go tweaks the box after seeing all the complaints from players. In the meantime, players might just want to stick to catching the hat wearing Pikachu that are springing up everywhere.
