Final Fantasy XV Episode Prompto Trailer Hints at Dark Character Origins

The second character DLC for Final Fantasy XV, Episode Prompto, is finally launching on June 27. Today Square Enix released an emotional and mysterious new trailer, giving us a taste of what we can expect in this dark and desperate new narrative. Check it out above.

"Separated from the group and alone in the arctic, Prompto fights to discover the truth of his origin. Take down enemies with bazookas, ride the snowmobile, and snap selfies along the way! Play as Prompto for the first time here."

As you can see from this trailer and the gameplay trailer which released a few days ago, Prompto really likes his guns. You'll be using a wide variety of firearms to take down your opponents as you infiltrate a mysterious facility which, coincidentally, could be your home. We've seen a few melee techniques and magically augmented hand-to-hand attacks as well, but we assume that the majority of your offense will consist of stealthy takeouts and all-out, explosive firefights.

Fan reception has so far been very positive, with many suggesting that the story told through Prompto's DLC campaign could surpass that of the base game in terms of coherence and emotional appeal. That's a pretty strong claim, but then, Prompto has always been a fan favored underdog.

Following Episode Gladiolus, Episode Prompto is the second of three planned story expansions included with the Final Fantasy XV season pass. After Prompto gets his time in the spotlight, the only character we'll have left to explore more fully is Ignis. That Season Pass will set you back $25 which, considering we've seen the base game sell as low as $35 recently, isn't too bad. For you investment you are entitled to:
