Free Epic Games Store Games Include 2005 Classic PC Game

Last week, the Epic Games Store’s free games lineup was one of the best of 2025. This week, it is not as noteworthy; however, there is a nostalgic 2005 PC game included. As always with the EGS, the new free games this week are available for exactly one week. Come September 25, they will be replaced with a new free offer, but if claimed before then, the PC games in question are free to keep perpetually.

One of the two new free PC games is Project Winter, a 2019 release from Other Ocean Interactive. This is the newer of the two PC games, but perhaps the less noteworthy one. Because the other free Epic Games Store game is 2005’s Samorost 2 from Amanita Design, both of which helped pioneer the indie games space two decades ago.

Samorost 2

Samorost 2 is a point-and-click adventure game meets puzzle game, and a sequel to 2003’s Samorost, though you don’t need to play the first game to enjoy the second. Samorost 2 was brought to mobile devices in 2020, but has never been brought to console, remaining a PC exclusive. In the critically acclaimed and surreal sequel, you play as a space gnome whose dog has been kidnapped by mischievous aliens. Your job is to get your dog back.

The PC version costs $5, so this isn’t an incredible amount of savings; however, it has an 88% approval rating, suggesting it is a $5 well spent. Don’t expect a ton of content, though, as the game is only about an hour long.

Project Winter

Project Winter is a survival game meets social deception game where betrayal is as important as teamwork. In it, you are stranded in a winter wilderness that will kill you if you don’t gather resources, repair objectives, and find an escape route. The problem is, among the other seven players you are playing with are traitors trying to sabotage you.

As alluded to, this is a multiplayer game, so it being free on Epic Games Store may be a great time to play it because there will be a surge of players that the title will probably never see again. Normally, the PC game costs $10, and in exchange for $10 you get a game with an 87% approval rating.

If neither of these free PC games tickle your fancy, there is a new free game available on Steam right now for the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over in the ComicBook Forum.
