After hours of grinding matches, countless close calls, and more failures than I’d like to admit, I finally won a round of Fortnite’s Delulu game mode. My reward? The rare Crashbrella, an umbrella that may end up becoming one of the rarest Fortnite items alongside certain skins in the game if this limited-time mode doesn’t stick around. Having it feels like a badge of honor, not just proof of surviving the storm and 80 players, but a testament to my skill in the battle royale game.

If you’re unfamiliar with Delulu, it’s a limited-time no-build mode in Fortnite that first appeared on September 19th and ran for the weekend. It has returned today, September 26th, and will end on September 29th, 9:00 AM. All players start solo, but you can join up with other players you encounter. Proximity voice chat is available in this mode, allowing you to talk to your squadmates and other players. This leads to chaos, but also lets you form alliances with random players — and that is what makes it difficult to obtain the Crashbrella, which winners are rewarded when they win.
The Best Way to Win Fortnite’s Delulu Mode

It took me many tries before I realized one strategy was the key to winning Delulu in Fortnite, and even then, it comes down to luck. The problem with this game mode is that it is solo queue, but players can team up mid-game to form squads. This means you are likely going to be facing squads on your own unless you also team up. But even then, at the end of the game, you’ll encounter players who just dance once the circle disappears and wait out the storm. This often leads to chance choosing who wins when everyone’s HP drops to zero. It makes for a high intensity game that rivals some of Fortnite’s best seasons.
My main piece of advice is to stock up on healing items, particularly those that instantly restore health, like the Lawless Slap Cannon, or Chug Jugs that you can drink for extended periods. Medkits are another option if you cannot get your hands on Chug Jugs. These allow you to heal as the storm does continual damage, outlasting those who do not have healing items. I recommend having a single weapon and primarily healing items, as staying alive is more important than getting eliminations.
The second piece of advice is to find an Air Strike and save it until the end. Once the circle has reached its smallest point, players will group up in it to try and stay alive as long as possible. Mark this location with your Air Strike and run away, or stay out of sight and pick off enemies that are fleeing. But you don’t want to engage for too long, as you should focus on staying alive and healing once the storm fully envelops the map.
Finally, if all else fails, you can carry a Jump Pad with you to the end of the game. You can use this as the circle gets smaller, because there is inevitably someone who tries to kill everyone and win. The Jump Pad lets you fly into the air and avoid getting shot while staying in the circle. When the circle vanishes, though, be sure to fly away quickly and heal once you get on the ground. Using this method eventually earned me the Crashbrella, and I’ll be using it with pride after the long road to get it.
Why Is Getting the Crashbrella So Hard?

Despite the cooperative and communicative nature of this game mode, only one player can win — even if you squad up, only one player in the squad will win and get the Crashbrella. This leads to sudden betrayals at the end of the game, or a group of friends having to choose who can obtain the umbrella.
This makes it really difficult to win in the traditional way. That’s why I recommend the above strategy, as playing Fortnite how it is supposed to be played will only get you eliminated. Teaming up and avoiding fights is the best option while you collect healing items and prepare for the final standoff. As there is no guarantee that Delulu will return, this may be the final opportunity to claim the Crashbrella in Fortnite. Until then, jump into Delulu and get that Crashbrella while you wait for Fortnitemare to start.
