Magic: The Gathering Reveals New Marvel Set (But Star Trek Might Steal the Show)

Fans of Magic: The Gathering were hoping to see a number of surprises revealed during this year’s MagicCon, and it looks like Wizards of the Coast heard that loud and clear. At MagicCon: Atlanta, Wizards revealed an early look at the Magic: The Gathering 2026 lineup, and while they didn’t reveal everything in store for one of the most popular games on the planet, they did reveal a brand new Marvel set to follow this year’s Spider-Man release. That’s quite the reveal, but their Star Trek announcement truly might have stolen the show.

Marvel Super Heroes

Wizards kicked things off with a deep dive into their in-universe set, Lorwyn Eclipsed, as well as a spotlight for their upcoming Secrets of Strixhaven set. They also teased another Universes Beyond set as well, but no word yet on what that set will be focused on. What they did reveal, however, was the next Marvel set, which will be titled Marvel Super Heroes and is set to launch in June of 2026.

Throughout the showcase the team showed off quite a few heroes and villains, and the heroes already confirmed for the set include Black Panther, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Thor, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, S.H.I.E.L.D., Heroes For Hire (Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Iron Fist, Colleen Wing), Daredevil, Giant Man, Cassie Lang, and yes, Squirrel Girl!

On the villains’ front, there are plenty of them in the set as well, including Killmonger, M.O.D.O.K., Grim Reaper, Thanos, Ultron, Taskmaster, Absorbing Man, Titania, Baron Zemo, Viper, Abomination, Loki, Kang, The Leader, and, of course, Doctor Doom.

This is going to be an Avengers-adjacent set, but with that lineup and more to come, characters don’t have to be Avengers to be included. Another note made by the team was that this set is directly based on the comic interpretations of the characters and not the realms of TV or movies, using Ms. Marvel as an example. Her powers in the comics are obviously different from the MCU version, and for the cards, they will be leaning into the comics specifically.

Star Trek

The Magic team rolled out even more announcements over the course of the presentation, but they saved one of their best for last. That’s when it was revealed that Magic would be heading into the final frontier with a new Star Trek set, and it could be one of the coolest sets of the year when it releases in November of 2026.

The reaction from the room was huge, and as you can see in the images above, Magic and Star Trek make quite the pair. The team revealed that this has been years in the making, and it’s right in time for Star Trek’s 60th anniversary.

This will be a full set and will be inspired by the whole franchise, including the original series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and even Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and beyond. As you might expect, the Starship Enterprise was featured during the panel, but this will be one of many starships in the set. The same goes for characters, and that includes icons like Captain Kirk and Chancellor Gowron, as well as landmarks like the Crystalline Entity.

While we wait for Star Trek’s long-term film and TV plans to take shape, at least the franchise will be represented in the tabletop space, and it’s already looking insanely impressive. Hopefully, more details will follow before the end of the year, but as far as Magic: The Gathering’s 2026 lineup, there’s already a lot to be excited about.
