Persona 5 has really grown on millions of players out there. In fact, our own Matt Hayes treated it like a firstborn at one point, playing it for hours on end. And now, thanks to the Japanese publication Famitsu, it's gained enough popularity to be considered the best game ever made.

Famitsu asked its readers to vote for their favorite game of all time in a recent issue, without any sort of restriction to platform of release date. Some editorial staff and celebrities chimed in as well, but the vote was pretty much unanimous – Persona 5 rules.

According to DualShockers, Persona 5 earned top marks as the most popular game of all time per this audience, followed by Dragon Quest III (with 612 votes) and Splatoon (with 411 votes). NieR: Automata and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild handily rounded out the top five.

The top 40 games in the vote were as follows, and there were some surprising entries:

Famitsu also asked fans to vote for their favorite game system, and, to no one's surprise, the PlayStation 2 took the top spot with 16 percent of the vote. The PlayStation was in second with 15 percent; the Super Famicom came in third with 11 percent; and the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 rounded out the top five. (The Dreamcast was robbed!)

So there you have it. Persona and PlayStation love all around!
