Pokemon Go Fest tickets just went live, along with new details about Pokemon Go's first live events. Although Niantic announced the event earlier this month, they didn't give any plans for the day long event other than a place (Chicago's Grant Park) and a date (July 23.)
Given how disappointing other "official" Pokemon Go events were, some fans are concerned that the live event won't be worth the cost of travel and tickets.
So, how much will Pokemon Go Fest cost you and will there be any exclusive benefits? Well, we've got all the new information here. Keep scrolling down to find out more about this huge Pokemon Go event.
Unlike events for Ingress, Niantic's other AR-based game, you will have to pay to get into Pokemon Go Fest. Tickets will cost $20 a piece, with an additional $6.18 fee. Players will get a wristband for the festival, which can be picked up at the event.
As of right now, the $20 will only get you entry into the event. The website doesn't mention any "free" merchandise or swag that's usually comes with buying tickets for other Niantic-run events.
The only people who do get in for free are children 3 years old or younger.
Right now, Pokemon Go Fest tickets are "unavailable" hinting that the first set of tickets have already sold out.
Increased Pokemon Encounters...Plus Regional Pokemon
It doesn't look like Pokemon Go Fest will have any Legendary Pokemon, but that doesn't mean there won't be other rare Pokemon making an appearance. Pokemon Go Fest will have "increased Pokemon encounters," including ones that have "never been seen before" in Chicago.
The accompanying picture shows a Heracross, so it's a good bet that Regional Pokemon like Mr. Mime, Farfetch'd, Kangaskhan, and Corsola will all spawn at Pokemon Go Fest for the day.
Other(unlikely) possibilities include Smeargle and Delibird, two Gen 2 Pokemon that were held back due to their unusual movesets that were seen as problematic.prevnext
A Worldwide Impact
Even if you can't attend Pokemon Go Fest, you could still see some benefits from the event. According to the event's website, players will compete in challenges throughout the day to unlock "amazing in-game rewards globally."
The website promises more details later, but our best guess is that team activities could unlock the first Legendary Pokemon that will appear in Raids throughout the world later this summer. It's also possible that certain Teams will get in-game rewards for winning challenges at Pokemon Go Fest.
It's a bit disappointing that Niantic didn't reveal more about this feature, as it could wind up being the reason why many players choose whether or not to attend.prevnext
There's a couple other smaller perks to attending Pokemon Go Fest. Players who attend the event will get an exclusive in-app medal for their profile page.
Players will also have access to special Poke Stops that award 2 KM eggs which can only be obtained during the event. We're guessing that Pokemon like Larvitar and Dratini will hatch from those eggs, giving players a prime chance to finally get that Dragonite or Tyranitar.
The event will also have special "Team Lounges" where players can meet teammates from around the globe. The lounges will also have recharge stations, which makes sense given that players will be on their phones all day.prevnext
