Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is a lot more than a remake of last year's popular Pokemon games.
A lot of Pokemon fans were skeptical of the newest Pokemon games as they looked to be a polished version of Pokemon Sun and Moon. But The Pokemon Company shocked the world by announcing that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would be the first Pokemon games ever to introduce new Pokemon in the middle of a generation.
In addition to the three new Pokemon, there's also several new Pokemon forms that are radically different than the Pokemon we saw last year.
Here's a look at all the new Pokemon in the game along with their abilities and how to get them:
Lycanroc gets a third form in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but it's only available to players who purchase the game early.
Lycanroc is a popular Rock-Type Pokemon that previously had two forms based on which game players bought. Pokemon Sun could get the wolf-like Midday form, while Pokemon Moon had the werewolf-esque Midnight form.
The new Dusk form is a combination of the two other Lycanroc forms and has access to moves that could only be learned by either the Midday or Midnight Lycanrocs.
Players can get the Dusk Lycanroc by downloading a special Rockruff from the Mystery Gift area after getting Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and then evolving it between 5 PM and 5:59 PM.prevnext
Poipole and Naganadel
Poipole and Naganadel are two of the new Ultra Beasts added to Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. While most of the Ultra Beasts are high level Pokemon with Legendary-type abilities and stats, Poipole is much weaker.
Poipole is the Ultra Space's version of a Starter Pokemon, a partner Pokemon that a trainer receives when they start their Pokemon journey. Players can only get Poipole as a gift from the Ultra Space Recon Squad in Ultra Megalopolis after they beat Ultra Necrozma.
Poipole evolves into Naganadel when it levels up knowing Dragon Pulse. If your Poipole doesn't know Dragon Pulse, you can have it re-learn the move from the Move Relearner at Mount Lanakila in exchange for a Heart Scale.prevnext
Blacephalon and Stakataka
Blacephalon and Stakataka are the other two new Ultra Beasts in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Both were first revealed earlier this year as the first new Pokemon to be introduced in a "mid-generation" game.
Blacephalon is a Fire/Ghost-Type Pokemon that can toss its gumball-like head at enemies and cause it to explode. Stakataka is a Rock/Steel-Type Pokemon with a super stout Defense stat.
Blacephalon and Stakataka are both version-exclusive Pokemon. Blacephalon is only available in Pokemon Ultra Sun, while Stakataka is only available in Pokemon Ultra Moon. Players can catch their game's new Ultra Beast in Poni Canyon after beating the game's main storyline.prevnext
Necrozma picks up a whopping three new forms in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Players unlock Necrozma's "Dusk Mane" and "Dawn Wing" forms by merging Necrozma with either Solgaleo or Lunala. Necrozma gains the type and special moves of whichever Legendary Pokemon it absorbs, but it retains the "Prism Armor" ability that reduces damage caused by Super Effective attacks.
When holding an Ultranecrozmium Z-Crystal, either Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma can assume its "Ultra Necrozma" form. Players gain the ability to use an "Ultra Burst" to trigger the transformation, which turns Necrozma into a super-powerful Psychic/Dragon-Type Pokemon. Necrozma gains the new Neuroforce ability, which increases damage from super effective attacks, as well as the Light That Burns the Sky Z-Move.prev
